Kamchatka bugbane is toxic to most animals, including cats, dogs, and horses. It causes irritation to the mouth and gastrointestinal tract and leads to cardiac and respiratory failure. These severe cases are very rare in animals as the saponins give the plant a very bitter taste which deters the animals to consume larger amounts of the plant. There is an exception that it's harmless to birds, as birds are its primary seed dispersal strategy.
