Understanding Succulent Soil Components
Main components of a succulent soil mix include organic material and mineral grit. Organic materials, such as peat moss, pine bark, and compost, provide nutrients and retain some moisture. Simultaneously, mineral grit like coarse sand, perlite, or pumice enhances drainage, preventing root rot. The goal is to strike a balance between these components to ensure the soil mix is not too dense, which could lead to water logging, or too gritty, which can lead to nutrient deficiency.
