Pyramidal bugle is a perennial ground cover which grows through short rhizomes extending up to 12 inches (30 cm). Throughout May to June, it produces pale blue-violet flowers on spiked inflorescences. After blooming, these can be trimmed to promote the appearance of its foliage. The plant forms a dense, shallow-rooted mat in its first year that can become difficult to relocate if allowed to spread unchecked. It exhibits resistance to deer and rabbit browsing and tolerates proximity to black walnut trees.
