How to Grow and Care for Cynosurus

Bristly dogstail-grass is native to Southern Europe but has been introduced and naturalized in many parts of the Americas where it is now widely considered a noxious weed. In Chile, Cynosurus echinatus is known to be herbicide-resistant and can negatively affect the yields of canola and wheat crops.

Crested dogstail-grass (Cynosurus cristatus) is a tufted perennial grass from Europe and southwest Asia. It has been imported to North America, Australia, New Zealand and elsewhere, and often serves as an ornamental grass. Sheep and cattle graze on the younger, softer leaves, but typically ignore the tougher stems. Crested dogstail-grass tolerates cold well and even stays green through the winter.

Cynosurus coloratus is a grass species notable for its vivid green color and unique inflorescence, bearing a resemblance to a feather duster. Adapted to thrive in open fields and meadows, cynosurus coloratus prefers well-drained soils.
