Virgin's palm is a slow-growing plant with distinctive, feathery, frond-like leaves that range from 0.9 to 1.5 meters (3-5 feet) in length. Initially, these leaves display a soft blue-gray color which matures to a glossy green. The plant's foliage gracefully arches from a broad, stout trunk that can be up to 15 cm (half a foot) wide and 0.9 meters (three feet) tall. Over time, virgin's palm can attain a height of approximately 2.4 meters (8 feet) and a spread of 1.8 meters (6 feet). It bears either male or female cones, as it is dioecious, with both genders presented on separate plants upon reaching maturity. The plant is resistant to cold temperatures down to -8 degrees Celsius (18 degrees F).
