Pinkball is distinguished by its heart-shaped, velvety leaves of a large size. In autumn and winter, it exhibits a striking display of spherical clusters of fragrant pale pink flowers that hang gracefully from the foliage. The spent flowers persist, gradually changing from pale pink to light brown. This species can reach heights of up to 25 feet (7.6 meters) and may vary in appearance as either a large shrub or a smaller tree. The leaves can develop a subtle bronze hue upon exposure to frost. Its preferred environment is one with sun to partial shade, and it thrives in moist, fertile soil but is sensitive to cold, with a frost-hardiness limit of 30 degrees Fahrenheit (-1 degree Celsius).
