How to Grow and Care for Painted echeveria

Painted echeveria, also known as Echeveria discolor

Painted echeveria is renowned for its ease of care and striking appearance. Two vital care requirements for painted echeveria include proper lighting and watering practices. Painted echeveria thrives in bright, indirect sunlight and requires a well-draining soil mix to prevent root rot. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings, and be especially mindful during winter to reduce frequency to avoid overwatering. These precautions ensure painted echeveria's optimal growth and maintain its vibrant, marbled foliage.

Painted echeveria presents as a visually striking succulent with branched stems extending 1-2 feet (30-60 cm) that may rest horizontally or gently curve upwards. At the ends, 5-inch (12.7 cm) wide rosettes consist of absinthe-green, sharply pointed leaves, concave on the upper surface and distinctly keeled beneath. These leaves are adorned with bold red markings along their margins and at the midpoint. Throughout the summer, painted echeveria blooms with pale yellow flowers, touched with red, that rise on singular, erect inflorescences reaching up to 2 feet (60 cm) tall. The accompanying bracts mirror the leaves' coloration.
