How to Grow and Care for Coral tree

Coral tree

Coral tree requires moderate attention to thrive. Key care requirements include providing a sunny location and ensuring regular, deep watering during its growing season, while allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Special care points involve protection from frost and pruning to remove dead or damaged wood, which will promote healthy growth and flowering in the following season.

Coral tree is characterized by its medium to large size, often reaching up to 30 feet (9 meters) in both height and width. It has a notable semi-deciduous, spreading form. The vivid red flowers which bloom from fall through spring, are especially prominent when the tree lacks leaves in late winter to early spring. These flowers are distinguished by a 2-inch-long (5 cm), slightly curved banner that reflexes back, revealing all parts in bright red. This tree does well in full sun, requires deep but infrequent watering, and shows a degree of cold hardiness, surviving temperatures as low as the low 20s Fahrenheit (-6 to -7 Celsius) for brief periods.
