How to Grow and Care for Globularia

Alypo globe daisy is a mat-forming mountain wildflower. Together with other plants of the Globularia genus, it's the main food source for larvae of some moths species such as Coleophora virgatella. The bluish-purple flowers release a pleasant aroma.

Common globularia (Globularia bisnagarica) is an herbaceous perennial that is native to central and southern Europe where it tends to grow in meadows. It has dark green leathery foliage and from spring through summer it produces bright blue spherical flower heads.

A small but hardy little evergreen, the matted globularia has won an Award of Garden Merit. The specific epithet, Cordifolia, is a Latin word that means "with heart-shaped leaves." This plant's spoon-shaped leaves and fluffy blue flowers make it ideal for growing in rock gardens, troughs, or alpine dwellings.

Common globularia shares a close resemblance with its ornamental relative Globularia trichosantha but differs in its lack of stolons. It is a wildflower that is widely popular for its blue, globe-shaped flower heads.
