The only plant that's able to grow in all ecosystems of the Gobi Desert, saxaul is a very important plant within its native region. It provides shelter and food for various animals, while its wood produces a green dye that Turkmenistan people use for coloring wool yarn. The wood is also used for fuel and building shelter. Due to climate change and human factors, the species Haloxylon ammodendron is listed as at risk of extinction.
