Firebush is characterized by its lush, pointed leaves that come in clusters of three, measuring around 7.5 to 20 cm (3 to 8 inches) in length. These leaves display a vivid green hue with striking purple-bronze highlights, which transition to a brownish-red come fall. The vibrant orange-red flowers, approximately 1.9 cm (0.75 inch) long, bloom in dense clusters, drawing the attention of hummingbirds and butterflies. Following the flowers, firebush produces edible dark fruit that also appeals to a variety of birds. Typically seen as a bushy growth reaching 0.9 to 1.5 meters (3 to 5 feet) tall in cultivation, it can grow considerably taller in ideal conditions.
