Rough hawkweed is a perennial herbaceous plant characterized by its leafy stems covered with dense bristles that give a rough texture. Its lance-shaped leaves are also bristled and primarily clasp the stem. Towards the top, it bears clusters of yellow, daisy-like flower heads each with numerous small, petal-like ray florets encircling a center of disc florets. Rough hawkweed reaches a typical height of 1-2 feet (30-60 cm). The involucre beneath the flower head is layered with bristled green bracts.
