How to Grow and Care for Chameleon plants

Chameleon plant (Houttuynia cordata) is a perennial low-growing shrub. In spring, its leaves burst forth with a kaleidoscopic mix of red, green, and white coloration. The name "chameleon" references the plant's colorful nature. In summer, beautiful white flowers with bristle-like centers bloom. Chameleon plant is common in Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine.

Chameleon plant 'Chameleon' is a variegated form of H. cordata, also known as ‘Variegata’ and ‘Tricolor.’ The green leaves on bright red stems are splashed with streaks of red, pink, yellow, and cream. The colors are pronounced in full sun and become duller in the shade. Like the common form, chameleon plant 'Chameleon' can act invasively, although it is slightly less aggressive. Its growth can be limited by container planting.
