How to Grow and Care for Miner's lettuce

Blinks is distributed widely in wet habitats across the world. It has remained chiefly a wildflower, not typically being cultivated as an ornamental. However, its mat-forming growth would make an excellent ground cover plant in wetter garden environments.

Annual water minerslettuce (Montia arvensis) is typically found in wetlands, although it can also grow in aquatic or drier habitats. When it flowers in the summer, it attracts pollinators. Montia species are referred to as miner's lettuce as they were foraged and used as an alternative to lettuce during the California gold rush.

Montia linearis is a slender, branching annual herb growing erect to about 25 to 30 centimeters in maximum height. The somewhat fleshy linear leaves are alternately arranged and measure up to 10 centimeters in length. The inflorescence bears up to 14 flowers with bases of curving oval green sepals. The petals are roughly half a centimeter long and white or pink-tinged in color.

Its succulent leaves are typically arranged in a basal rosette, supporting its survival in the competitive undergrowth.
