The stems of the blue fiesta flower (*Pholistoma auritum*) sport bristles that help them cling and climb on surfaces. Reportedly, Mexican girls used to make use of these bristles to stick the flowers to their dresses during fiestas (parties). Blue fiesta flowers are common targets for moths such as the *Stamnodes albiapicata*.

Arizona fiestaflower is a distinctive wildflower with notable vibrant blue to violet blooms and a white center. Its heart-shaped leaves and hairy texture are adapted to its arid native habitat. Pholistoma membranaceum is an annual herb with a waxy, fleshy, bristly stem up to 90 centimeters long and branching profusely, sometimes forming a tangle. The leaves are deeply lobed or cut and borne on winged petioles. The flower is white, usually with a purple spot or streak on each of its five lobes.
