Rosette mullein is an evergreen perennial herb that displays showy flowers in the late spring/early summer. In the wild, it is found in shaded, rocky mountainous areas. Rosette mullein has a rosette habit (meaning its leaves stretch outwards to prevent being taken over by other plants) and is often cultivated for rockeries.
It grows from rocks at an angle, allowing rainwater to run off the surface of the leaves. It is hardy down to −15 ℃. In late spring, clusters of flat, lilac blue flowers rise from basal rosettes of rounded crenate evergreen leaves. In cultivation in the UK this plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit.
