How to Propagate Pigeon pea?
(Cajanus cajan)
Pigeon pea, also known as Tur, Tropical Green Pea, Cajan pea, Dhal
Pigeon pea, a leguminous shrub, is commonly propagated using cuttings for reliable results. The preferred cuttings are semi-woody, as they strike a balance between flexibility and maturity, ensuring better root development. To do this, a healthy, disease-free parent plant is selected. A cutting of about 6-8 inches is taken with several nodes, as nodes are where roots tend to form. Dipping the base in a rooting hormone can improve success rates. The cuttings are then planted in well-draining soil and kept under high humidity conditions with consistent moisture. Avoid direct sunlight initially to prevent wilting.
