The chocolate soldier plant is native to Madagascar's arid regions, where average temperatures range from 20 to 38 ℃ (68 to 100 ℉). It prefers a warm climate and moderate to bright light. In the winter, it will go dormant if the temperature drops below 13 ℃ (55 ℉). In summertime, it appreciates a little air circulation to keep it comfortable.
