From Ground: Begin by watering your purplestem angelica to dampen the soil around it, this makes excavation easier and less damaging to the roots. Then, use your spade or shovel to dig a wide circle around the plant, aiming to keep as much of the root system intact as possible. Pull up the plant gently to avoid breaking the roots.
From Pot: Water the plant and let it sit for a few moments. Then, place your hand on top of the soil with the plant's stalk between your fingers. Turn the pot upside down and gently tap it until the plant slides out. Avoid yanking or shaking the plant.
From Seedling Tray: Water the tray well so the seedlings are easier to remove. Using a dibber or a pencil, push up from the hole at the bottom of the tray to lift the purplestem angelica plug out making sure the roots are kept intact.
