From Ground: Begin by watering the orchid tree plant to dampen the soil. This makes extraction easier. Using a spade or shovel, dig a wide trench around the orchid tree plant staying as far off from the base as possible to not harm the main roots. Work your spade under the root ball, lifting the plant from the ground.
From Pot: If the orchid tree plant is in a pot, carefully lay it on its side. Tap the edges of the pot to loosen the soil and the root structure. Gently slide the orchid tree plant out, keeping the root ball intact.
From Seedling Tray: If the orchid tree is still a seedling in a tray, make sure to transplant it before it becomes root bound. Gently hold the leaves and stem and coax the plant out from the soil. Avoid pulling on the stems which can lead to damage.
