From Ground: First, dampen the soil around your shrub vinca plant with a watering can or garden hose. It will make digging easier and reduce stress on the plant. Next, use a shovel or garden spade to dig a wide trench around the plant, ensuring the plant's root ball remains intact. Carefully work the spade under the root ball to lift the shrub vinca from its original location.
From Pot: Water the shrub vinca an hour or so before you plan to transplant. This will help the plant slip out of the pot easier. Turn the pot sideways, hold the plant gently by the stems or leaves, and tap the bottom of its container until the plant slides out. Avoid pulling the plant as it might damage the stem.
From Seedling Tray: Gently hold the shrub vinca by its leaves (never by its stem), and push up from the bottom of the tray. If it resists, use a butter knife to cut away the plastic around the root ball. Be careful not to damage any roots.
