From Ground: Start by watering the cleft phlox plant to soften the soil. When the soil is wet, it will be easier to remove the plant without causing damage to the root system. Use a gardening spade to dig a generous ring around the plant, wide and deep enough to include the entire root mass. Carefully lift cleft phlox plant from the ground, ensuring the root ball remains intact.
From Pot: If the cleft phlox plant is potted, water the plant generously before beginning. Tip the plant sideways and tap the bottom and sides of the pot to loosen it. Gently pull the plant by the base, holding it as close to the soil level as possible.
From Seedling Tray: For smaller plants or seedlings, use a spoon or small spade to delicately scoop each individual plant out from the tray, ensuring you keep the root structure intact.
