From Ground: Initially, water the japanese red pine to loosen the soil around its roots. Use a hand trowel to dig a circular trench around the base of the japanese red pine about a couple of feet wide, depending on the size of the plant. Be careful to avoid damaging the root system. Once the trench is complete, gently lift the japanese red pine from beneath using the trowel.
From Pot: Water the japanese red pine well and wait until water properly drains out. Turn the pot sideways, while supporting the japanese red pine with your other hand. Carefully wiggle the pot to help loosen the japanese red pine, and ever so gently pull the japanese red pine out from the pot.
From Seedling Tray: Thoroughly water the japanese red pine and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Carefully lift the seedlings by the leaves or the root ball, never by the stem, using a dibber or a pencil.
