From Ground: First, water your hoja Santa for it'll make the soil easier to work with. Use the spade or shovel to dig around the plant, leaving ample space to keep the root ball intact. Once you’ve completely encircled the plant, dig under the root ball and lift it from the ground carefully.
From Pot: Water the plant in the pot a few hours before transplanting. Gently turn the pot upside down, tap it to release the hoja Santa. If it's resistant, run a garden trowel around the inside edge of the pot to loosen it. Be careful not to pull too hard on the stem.
From Seedling Tray: Moisten the soil in the tray and gently lift the hoja Santa by holding onto a leaf, not the stem. Try to keep as much soil around the roots as possible during the process.
