How to identify Yellow horned poppy (Glaucium flavum)
Yellow horned poppy, also known as Beach poppy, Yellow hornpoppy
Yellow horned poppy is a perennial with a distinctive structure forming mounded rosettes of fuzzy gray-green leaves that are deeply incised and wavy at the edges, reaching up to 2 feet (60 cm) tall. Early spring to midsummer, vivid golden-yellow flowers with a central tuft of orange stamens and four silky petals, each around 1 inch (2.5 cm) long, emerge atop branched stems. Subsequent to flowering, yellow horned poppy develops unusually long, narrow seed pods with thorn-like protrusions, stretching over 6 inches (15 cm) in length.
