Is Columbine toxic to humans?
It's unclear the exact toxic effects of columbine, but there is a vast amount of research on the toxicity of the genus, Aquilegia. The seeds and roots contain the highest concentration of toxic compounds, namely cardiogenic toxins that can cause stomach irritation, vomiting, and diarrhoea (also known as gastroenteritis), as well as heart abnormalities if ingested. So, although there's a lack of clarity surrounding the danger of this plant, it's better to be left alone. There is no evidence that it causes dermatitis when direct contact is made between columbine and the skin.
