Is Mayapple toxic to humans?

Mayapple, an interesting plant commonly found in woodlands, has highly toxic leaves and roots.

Is Mayapple toxic to cat?

All parts of the mayapple (Podophyllum peltatum) contain serious toxins that can make cats severely ill if ingested, so keep your cat out of the forested areas where they may grow. Violent vomiting and loose stools can lead to your cat becoming dehydrated, so call your veterinarian if your cat seems ill after adventuring in areas where mayapple grows.

Is Mayapple toxic to dog?

Mayapples are moderately toxic to dogs. All parts of the plant contain a substance which causes severe irritation when eaten or touched. Dogs that rub up against its leaves may experience rashes or a swelling of the muzzle or eyes. Ingestion may result in excessive drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or cramping. Luckily, mayapple poisonings are rarely fatal, as a significant amount of the plant must be eaten to cause a severe reaction, and the plants are quite bitter.
