Approximately 50 species in this genus aerangis are known mostly from tropical Africa. Species are usually epiphytic, sometimes lithophytic small orchids. Their large, waxy, star-shaped flowers are generally white, cream-colored or yellow. There is a single stem with many flowers on a long raceme. There are six to ten parallel-veined, fleshy, evergreen leaves.
Water:
Aerangis thrives in high humidity and prefers consistent moisture, requiring watering twice a week. It is moderately drought-tolerant but benefits from regular misting to maintain humidity, especially as an epiphytic orchid often grown indoors for optimal growth and vibrant flowering.
Propagation:
Propagation of aerangis can be achieved through seed sowing, keiki development, or tissue culture. Key factors include humidity, light, and warmth. Steps involve collecting seeds or keikis, sowing in sterile media, ensuring high humidity and indirect light, and gradually acclimating to normal conditions.
