Amaryllis Hercules
Amaryllis Hercules shows off an appearance like no other, with a profusion of carmine-colored blossoms. It's an Amaryllis cultivar, although the exact genealogy of this plant is unclear. The cultivar name "Hercules," a well-known Greek hero, may have been chosen to complement the genus name "Amaryllis," which is a female name from Ancient Greece that means "sparkle."

Water: Amaryllis Hercules requires moist soil, needing frequent watering in spring and summer—every 1-2 days, and daily during flowering. In winter, reduce watering to 1-2 times weekly. Use standing water to avoid impurities and water the soil, not the bulb or foliage, while misting for humidity.
Fertilize: After one month of planting, amaryllis Hercules should be fertilized monthly with phosphate and potash before flowering. Loosen the soil and use water-soluble fertilizers. Stop fertilizing once blooming begins. Post-bloom, switch to high nitrogen and potassium fertilizers until dormancy, avoiding over-fertilization to prevent damage.
Pruning: Amaryllis Hercules features large blooms and benefits from careful pruning in early to late spring. Remove spent flowers and damaged leaves to enhance growth and prevent diseases. Use sharp, sterilized tools for clean cuts, promoting vigor and aesthetic appeal while redirecting energy towards bulblet development.
Propagation: Amaryllis Hercules propagates through seeding, bulb division, and cuttage, with bulb division being preferred for home planting. Old bulbs yield 2-3 child bulbs annually, requiring 2 days of drying post-division. Plant 2/3 of the bulb in a peat-sandy mix, watering once until new leaves appear.
