Water:
Seedlings and young plants of mugwort require consistent watering. Once mature, mugwort becomes drought-tolerant and no longer needs additional watering. In rainy or humid areas, ensure good soil drainage to prevent the plant from dying due to soggy conditions.
Fertilize:
Mugwort prefers poor soils and doesn't require additional fertilizers. Over-fertilization can lead to unwanted leggy growth. A light application of compost, manure, or organic fertilizers in spring or fall is sufficient to meet its nutrient needs.
Pruning:
Mugwort thrives with annual pruning in early to late winter. Remove dead branches and thin crowded areas for better air circulation and sunlight. Pruning enhances growth density, controls height, prevents invasiveness, and improves overall appearance, leading to healthier foliage.
Propagation:
Mugwort can be propagated via seeds or cuttings. For cuttings, take 3-4 in (7.5-10 cm) cuttings in late summer, using rooting powder and a sandy medium. Keep it moist; roots will develop in 1-2 weeks. Transplant when roots emerge, spacing at least 15 in (38 cm) apart.
