The only genus of bamboo native to North America, cane used to grow in vast colonies in wetlands and river bottoms in the southern United States. Rarer now due to habitat loss, they are still fairly common in those areas. There were used by Native American tribes in those regions as a building and weaving material.
Water:
Originating from humid environments, cane thrives with consistent moisture and benefits from watering twice a week. Although drought-resistant, it prefers stable water supply, enhancing its robust growth during the growing season through natural irrigation from regular rainfall.
Propagation:
Cane is propagated through division, requiring high humidity, warm temperatures, and well-draining soil. It needs ample light but not direct sunlight, with early spring being the ideal time. The process involves selecting healthy clumps, separating rhizomes, and ensuring consistent moisture in a shaded area.
