Aztekium valdezii is an endemic, tiny, star-shaped species of cactus - and quite a novel one. It was discovered only in 2011 by Mario Alberto Valdez Marroquín. In its natural habitat, it grows on gypsum and rock faces, often merged and unified with the rock. This species has a small range and the entire genus is highly sensitive due to frequent poaching and illegal trade.

Water:
Aztekium valdezii thrives in arid conditions, requiring minimal watering—once every three weeks—to avoid over-saturation. Its drought tolerance makes it suitable for outdoor settings, especially in xeriscaping or rock gardens focused on water conservation.
Fertilize:
During growing seasons, fertilize aztekium valdezii monthly with liquid fertilizer, avoiding winter fertilization. Incorporate slow-release fertilizer when repotting. Use low-concentration nitrogen fertilizer for seedlings and phosphate-potassium fertilizer around blooming. Excessive fertilizer may cause yellowing and slow growth; stop fertilization if this occurs.
Pruning:
Aztekium valdezii needs minimal pruning. Focus on removing withered flowers and branches, allowing the plant to allocate nutrients towards healthier growth.
Propagation:
Propagation of aztekium valdezii can be done through seeding, division, and grafting. Division involves cutting stem tips and planting them to encourage shoot growth. Grafting entails placing aztekium valdezii onto a cut rootstock and securing with rope, allowing 1-2 weeks for successful fusion.
