Benincasa is a vine grown for its very large fruit. The genus benincasa has the only member. It has yellow flowers and broad leaves. It is native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. The wax gourd is widely grown throughout Asia, including Java and Japan.
Water:
Benincasa thrives in humid environments and retains moisture efficiently. It prefers consistent hydration, requiring watering twice a week. As an outdoor cultivar, it benefits from natural rainfall during the growing season, which supports its robust growth cycle.
Propagation:
Benincasa is primarily propagated by seed sowing. Key factors include warm temperatures, consistent moisture, and well-draining, fertile soil. Soak seeds for 24 hours before planting 1 inch deep after the last frost. Maintain even moisture and a temperature of about 21°C (70°F), and thin seedlings to 46 cm (18 inches) apart.
