Brassavola is a genus of 21 orchids (family Orchidaceae). These species are widespread across Mexico, Central America, the West Indies and South America. They are epiphytes, and a few are lithophytes. A single, apical and succulent leaf grows on an elongated pseudobulb. The orchid yields a single white or greenish white flower, or a raceme of a few flowers.
Water:
Originating from humid environments, brassavola prefers consistent moisture but can tolerate brief droughts. It thrives in moderate humidity and should be watered weekly. Ideal for indoor settings, brassavola especially benefits from increased watering during its active growth season for optimal development.
Propagation:
Propagation of brassavola involves division of pseudobulbs or cuttings, requiring high humidity and warm temperatures. Success hinges on clean cuts and careful moisture management. The process includes selecting healthy pseudobulbs, sterilizing tools, separating rhizomes, potting, and maintaining suitable conditions.
