Angel’s trumpets
Also known as: Apricot angel's trumpet
Angel’s trumpets (Brugmansia versicolor) is a tropical shrub/tree that is highly prized ornamentally for its enormous flowers. These flowers are trumpet-shaped and almost look as if they are ready to be played by angels, hence the common name "Angel's trumpets." Though this shrub is cultivated for its ornamental appeal, the species has been classified as extinct in the wild by the IUCN since 2014. Take care with angel’s trumpets, since all parts of the plant are toxic when ingested and the sap may irritate the skin.

Water: Angel’s trumpets thrives in humid, tropical rainforest conditions and requires consistent moisture. It prefers weekly watering to sustain lush growth and benefits from adequate rainfall during the growing season, being an evergreen often cultivated outdoors.
Fertilize: Angel’s trumpets thrives with balanced NPK fertilizers, applied monthly in the growing season and quarterly in winter. Avoid root burn by diluting and not fertilizing dry soil. Increase phosphorus during flowering and consider slow-release granules or liquid fertilizers. Always wear gloves due to toxicity.
Pruning: Angel’s trumpets should be pruned in early spring before new growth. Remove dead branches and thin interiors for air circulation. Trim straggly branches to promote bushier growth. Regular pruning enhances health and flowering. Always use clean, sharp tools to prevent disease.
Propagation: Angel’s trumpets features large, fragrant flowers and can be propagated through cuttings. Use healthy, disease-free plants and a sharp, sterilized tool for clean cuts. Root cuttings in a moist, well-draining medium with bottom heat, applying rooting hormone for better success. Transplant once rooted.
Repotting: Repot angel’s trumpets every 2-3 years when root-bound, ideally in early spring. Use a pot 2-3 inches larger with good drainage. After repotting, water moderately and provide a warm, well-lit environment for recovery and new growth.
