Leadwort is flowering herbaceous plants, subshrubs, or small shrubs growing to 30 to 100 cm tall. The leaves are spirally arranged, simple, usually with a hairy margin. Some of the species are evergreen, others deciduous. The flowers are produced in a compact inflorescence, each flower with a five-lobed corolla; flower colour varies from pale to dark blue to red-purple. The fruit is a small bristly capsule containing a single seed. This genus includes about 8 species. Leadwort is native to warm temperate to tropical regions of Africa and Asia.
Water:
Leadwort thrives in tropical, moderately humid climates, exhibiting moderate drought tolerance. It prefers consistent soil moisture and benefits from weekly watering. Enjoying full sun to partial shade, leadwort flowers best when irrigation coincides with the growing season for vibrant blooms.
Propagation:
Propagate leadwort via cuttings in late summer or division in spring. Use well-draining soil, moderate water, and bright indirect light at 18-21°C. To propagate, select healthy stems, plant with good soil contact, and ensure proper watering to prevent root rot.
