Soil Type
Water: Rock purslane thrives in arid, dry conditions and exhibits excellent drought tolerance. Water weekly to mimic its native rainfall. This succulent, grown outdoors, requires full sun and regulated soil moisture to prevent root rot, showcasing its resilience in desert and garden environments.
Fertilize: Rock purslane thrives with regular, balanced fertilization during active growth, ideally bi-monthly high-phosphorus applications. To avoid root burn, dilute fertilizers and shift to quarterly feeding in dormancy. Apply fertilizers at the base, avoiding leaves, and follow dosage guidelines for optimal health throughout seasonal changes.
Pruning: Rock purslane showcases vibrant flowers and succulent leaves. Pruning, especially in early spring to late winter, removes spent blooms and leggy growth, enhancing vitality and aesthetics. Use clean, sharp tools for precise cuts to foster healthy growth and dense foliage while preventing disease.
Propagation: Rock purslane flourishes in well-draining soils with ample sunlight. To propagate, use healthy, non-flowering cuttings with several leaf nodes, placed in moist, sandy substrate. Ensure to provide humidity and aeration for root development, as rock purslane's resilience leads to successful propagation.
Repotting: Repot rock purslane every two years in spring using a shallow, wide container. Use well-draining soil and moderate watering to avoid root rot. With minimal care, rock purslane will flourish as a low-growing succulent, adding vibrant blooms to your collection.
