Water: Yuzu originates from East Asia, thriving in subtropical climates with moderate humidity and well-drained soil. It requires watering every 1-2 weeks, favoring evenly moist conditions. Extra water is needed during dry spells to ensure its health and vigor.
Fertilize: To ensure delicious fruit from yuzu, apply phosphorus-rich fertilizer (N-P-K = 10-30-20) every 1-2 months in spring and summer, and nitrogen- and potassium-rich fertilizer (N-P-K = 18-10-20) during fruiting. Before winter, dig a trench and apply organic fertilizer for root growth and winter readiness.
Pruning: In summer, prune dense, weak, or infested branches of yuzu to enhance nutrient distribution. After harvest in fall or winter, trim dead, leggy, or overcrowded branches to improve air circulation and light penetration, thereby reducing the risk of pests and diseases.
Propagation: Propagate yuzu by grafting in spring using a vigorous rootstock branch, or through aerial layering. For layering, peel a 2-3 cm bark strip, cover with soil, and wrap in plastic film. Roots develop in 40-60 days; transplant in partial shade by the next spring.
