Most species of clidemia are known to have large, noticable flowers that are easily collected. Many in the genus flourish around clearings as they appreciate extra sunlight. While species number over 400, Clidemia hirta is the most well known and is a declared noxious weed in Australia, USA, Fiji, and Hawaii. The genus in general prefers warm, tropical climates and is native to much of America's tropics.
Water:
Originating from humid environments, clidemia efficiently absorbs moisture and is drought-tolerant, thriving in moist air. Watering should be moderate, every 2-3 weeks. It prefers outdoor settings and benefits from natural rainfall, making it suitable for climates with periodic wet seasons.
Propagation:
Primary propagation methods for clidemia include seed sowing and stem cuttings. Success requires high humidity, warm temperatures, and well-draining soil. For cuttings, use a healthy stem segment, apply rooting hormone, and maintain 70-75°F (21-24°C) until rooted before transplanting to individual pots.
