Water: Originating from temperate regions, dotted hawthorn thrives in moderate moisture. It prefers consistent but not waterlogged soil, requiring watering every 1-2 weeks. As an outdoor plant, dotted hawthorn benefits from natural rainfall, aiding its growth and hydration balance.
Fertilize: Dotted hawthorn thrives with balanced fertilizer applied in early spring and mid-autumn to promote growth and fruiting. Follow guidelines to prevent root burn, adjust for seasonal changes, and use light top-dressing. Avoid over-fertilization to maintain dotted hawthorn's resilience and soil health.
Pruning: Dotted hawthorn features distinct white flowers and red fruits. Early spring pruning enhances its health, involving removal of dead branches, thinning, and shaping. This practice boosts growth, improves air circulation, and minimizes disease risk. Use sanitized tools for clean cuts to aid recovery.
Propagation: Dotted hawthorn is a robust member of the Rosaceae family, best propagated by sowing. For successful growth, use a well-draining soil mix, ensure seed stratification, and consider direct sowing or pot starting. Fresh seeds improve germination, although it may take time. Once established, dotted hawthorn adapts well to diverse conditions.
Repotting: Dotted hawthorn requires excellent drainage in pots to thrive. Proper drainage prevents water accumulation, helping to avoid root rot and promoting healthy growth.
