Dove tree is a medium-sized deciduous tree in the family Nyssaceae. Dove tree includes only one species. It is a moderately fast-growing tree, growing to 20 to 25 m in height, with alternate cordate leaves resembling those of a linden in appearance, except that they are symmetrical, and lacking the lop-sided base typical of linden leaves; the leaves are mostly ovate to heart-shaped. Dove tree is best known for its inflorescence that features white bracts surrounding a purplish-red flower head. The fruit is a very hard nut surrounded by a green husk, hanging on a stalk. The nut contains 3–6 seeds. It is native to South Central and Southwest China.
Water:
Originating from China's cooler regions, dove tree prefers a moist environment and moderate drought tolerance. It favors slightly damp soil without waterlogging, requiring watering every two weeks. Thriving outdoors, dove tree benefits from rainfall to keep its deciduous leaves hydrated during the growing season.
Propagation:
Propagating dove tree involves seed sowing, root cuttings, or grafting. Success requires seed stratification (1-3 months at 4°C), well-drained, slightly acidic soil, and balanced light exposure. Maintain moisture and protect seedlings until transplanting after 1-2 years, as germination and growth are slow.
