Diplocyclos is a genus of climbing or trailing vine in the family Cucurbitaceae. The genus comprises four or five species. D. palmatus is pantropical in distribution and the remainder of species are restricted to Africa. Diplocyclos is characterised by simple, palmately lobed leaves and dioecius flowers, with male and female flowers in axillary sessile clusters or racemes. Diplocyclos produce fleshy, globular fruit with distinct striped or spotted patterns.
Water:
Adapted to periodic droughts, diplocyclos is drought-tolerant and prefers drier conditions. Water sparingly, ideally every three weeks. As an outdoor plant in warmer climates, diplocyclos benefits from seasonal rain patterns, which assist in its natural growth cycles.
Propagation:
Primary propagation of diplocyclos occurs via seed sowing in well-draining soil at 20-25°C (68-77°F) with bright, indirect light. Pre-planting scarification or soaking can improve germination, which takes 2-3 weeks. Cuttings are less common and require careful moisture management to prevent fungal issues.
