Dipteracanthus 'Elastica' is named for its attractive bubble-shaped leaves, which look like they have been stretched elastically. It is these dense evergreen leaves that give this plant its ornamental appeal. Since it isn’t frost-hardy, bubble plant is most commonly grown as a houseplant. Its trailing growth makes it a popular hanging plant.

Water:
Bubble plant thrives in humidity and prefers regular watering, especially during growth and hot spells. Water daily when active, or weekly in moderate weather, avoiding afternoon watering. Ensure soil moisture checks and maintain water pH between 5.5-7.8 for optimal health.
Fertilize:
Bubble plant thrives without fertilizer but benefits from a 10-10-10 mix in spring during active growth. For indoor varieties, a half dose every 2-3 weeks enhances leaf color. Over-fertilization may lead to fewer flowers.
Pruning:
Bubble plant needs minimal pruning. Remove dead leaves and flowers post-bloom to prevent seeding and improve appearance. Pinching young shoots promotes branching and flowering. Discard debris to deter pests. For damaged branches, prune back to ground level in late winter or early spring.
Propagation:
Bubble plant can be propagated by division, sowing, or cutting. Division is easiest, utilizing rhizomes. Seeds can be planted in spring at 19-24℃ (66-75°F), 12 in apart. For cuttings, use 5-8 cm pieces with nodes, placed in moist sand under polyethylene to prevent rot.
