Encelia actoni is a multi−branched perennial shrub, reaching 30 to 122 cm in height. The branches are lined with oval to roughly triangular leaves a few centimeters long, that are gray-green and woolly in texture. The inflorescence is a solitary daisylike flower head 2.5 to 5 cm in diameter, on a tall, erect peduncle.

Adapted to arid environments, brittlebushes thrives with minimal moisture and is drought-tolerant. Water every 2-3 weeks, allowing soil to dry out. Preferring full sun, brittlebushes is ideal for xeriscaping, conserving water while enhancing low-water landscapes.

Propagation of brittlebushes occurs through seed sowing or stem cuttings. Ideal conditions include full sun, well-drained soil, and temperatures above freezing, with careful watering. For cuttings, allow a callous, then plant in sandy soil. Seeds should be sown in autumn and kept moist until germination.
