Native to North America, the beech Drops are a small genus of parasitic species known to take their sustenance from the roots of beech trees. In fact, there is only one member of this woodland genus – Epifagus virginiana. This genus derives its Latin name Epifagus from the Greek for ‘upon’ and ‘beech’.
Water:
Originating from environments with moderate moisture, beech Drops prefers stable hydration and thrives with weekly watering. As an understory species from deciduous forests, it has adapted to seasonal rainfall patterns that enhance its growth cycles and water uptake efficiency.
Propagation:
Beech Drops propagates mainly through seed dispersal and may require stratification to mimic winter for dormancy breaking. Growth is dependent on host tree roots, preferably beech, in optimal light and temperature conditions. The propagation process includes seed collection, stratification, and careful sowing near host trees.
