Candy Grass
Also known as: Gray Lovegrass, Stink grass
Candy Grass (Eragrostis cilianensis) is a common annual grass that will grow from 41 to 51 cm tall. Also called stink grass, it has a strong scent and is considered a weed. It shows up in disturbed areas and gardens. Easy to remove by digging, it leaves behind seeds to continue its invasion. Regular mowing will prevent it from reseeding and eventually starve it out.

Water: Candy Grass thrives in regions with variable moisture, requiring a watering schedule that allows its soil to dry slightly between waterings, typically every week. This grass species shows drought resilience due to effective water storage, optimizing its growth by aligning with seasonal rainfall patterns.
Pruning: Candy Grass is a hardy grass that thrives with early to late spring pruning. This encourages new growth, prevents overcrowding, and enhances airflow, reducing disease risk. Regular trimming maintains shape and appearance, promoting overall health. Consult regional horticultural guides for tailored care advice.
Propagation: Candy Grass propagates primarily through sowing fresh seeds in well-draining soil. Maintain consistent moisture, avoiding waterlogging. A sunny position enhances germination rates. Handle delicate seedlings gently during thinning or transplanting to prevent shock, which can negatively impact survival.
