Desert candle is a genus of deciduous perennial flowers. The inflorescence looks similar to a long spike or a bottlebrush. It consists of many flowers in copper, bright yellow, snow white, pastel pink, orange or any combination of those colors. The leaves grow in tufts of thin, green, straplike strips. Species are known for thick roots that grow out from a central hub. It is also known for being tall, sometimes rising up to 3 m over the foliage, depending on the variety. They are native to eastern Europe and temperate Asia from Turkey, Siberia to China.
Water:
Desert candle is drought-tolerant, thriving with minimal moisture and requiring weekly watering. As an outdoor plant, it benefits from deep watering to promote a strong root system, particularly during its active growing season, avoiding waterlogged soil conditions.
Propagation:
Propagation of desert candle can be achieved through seed sowing and rootstock division. Use well-draining soil and ensure full sun exposure. Soak seeds for 24 hours and maintain moisture for germination. For division, separate offsets after foliage die-back and replant immediately for best results.
