Attributes of Cotton grass

Growth Rate
With moderate growth rate, cotton grass flourishes during summer, balancing energy distribution between vegetation and reproduction. This speed allows optimal seed head production, resulting in its cotton-like appearance, without greatly sacrificing height gain or foliar expansion. Varied growth in other seasons implies adaptation for thriving in optimum summer conditions.

Water: Cotton grass thrives in wetland habitats, preferring consistent moisture and tolerating brief water saturation. Watering weekly is essential for optimal growth. Commonly grown outdoors, cotton grass is ideal for rain gardens and areas prone to seasonal flooding due to its adaptability to varying water levels.
Fertilize: For optimal growth, cotton grass requires balanced nutrition fertilizer rich in nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. Apply diluted monthly during the growing season, reducing in winter. Avoid over-fertilization to prevent root burn, adjusting quantities as cotton grass matures. Use gloves and follow package instructions for safe application.
Pruning: Cotton grass is a perennial with distinctive fluffy seed heads. Prune in early to late spring for healthy growth and to prevent overcrowding. Remove damaged stems at ground level to enhance air circulation and minimize disease risk. Follow horticultural guidelines for effective pruning.
Propagation: For successful propagation of cotton grass, use division in early spring. Separate clumps with roots intact, and plant divisions in moisture-retentive soil. Maintain consistent moisture to encourage rooting, ideally mimicking cotton grass's natural boggy habitat for better establishment.
