Espostoa is a genus of columnar cacti, comprising 16 species known from the Andes of southern Ecuador and Peru. These candle-like cacti are covered with thorns and white hair. In adulthood, a cephalium sometimes appears, similar to the Mexican genus Cephalocereus.
Water:
Originating from arid regions, espostoa thrives with minimal water, requiring irrigation every three weeks. It adapts to long dry periods and benefits from well-draining soil that replicates its native habitat's conditions.
Propagation:
Propagation of espostoa involves seed sowing and stem cuttings. Success depends on light, temperature, and well-draining cactus soil. Handle sharp spines carefully; seedlings grow slowly and are sensitive to overwatering. Start seeds in warmth or take cuttings in the growth season, allowing cuttings to callous.
