Kidneywoods are a small genus of a little more than a dozen flowering plants. They are deciduous shrubs or small trees that are notable for producing aromatic resins and thin seeds contained by curved seed pods. The genus is native to hot dry habitats in Central and North America.
Water:
Kidneywoods thrives in regions with wet and dry seasons, exhibiting moderate drought tolerance. It prefers consistent moisture and should be watered weekly. As a deciduous plant, its watering needs decrease during dormancy when leaves are shed, making outdoor cultivation ideal.
Propagation:
Propagation of kidneywoods involves seed sowing and semi-hardwood cuttings. Use well-draining soil and maintain warm temperatures (21-24°C). Improve seed germination with scarification or soaking. For cuttings, apply rooting hormone and keep moist. Propagation difficulty is moderate, with seed viability and rooting as challenges.
